I found the technological advances from my 16 yr old Porter Cable 12v ni mh drill I replaced with this new Makita LXFD01 li-ion quite interesting. The power differences are significant from 12 to 18 volts and the 1/2 chuck is more versatile than my former 3/8". Let me qualify that the Porter Cable performed flawlessly for years but the batteries became less and less capable of maintaining a charge. It was actually less expensive to buy the Makita kit from Home Depot for $99.00 than it was to replace the batteries (if I could find any) for my older Porter Cable. In short, the Makita has less weight than my antiquated 12v, more power, and a superb balance and ergonomics worthy of a Swiss made pistol. I can't imagine any knowledgeable professional less than overly satisfied with this drill purchase. Hope this proves helpful, MD Zimmerman
