I'll start with saying that I'm not a contractor. I went with this set because a few of my fraternity brothers (both construction engineers) recommended them to me. My biggest worry was that 12v wouldn't be enough for me and they wouldnt be powerful enough. I was very nicely surprised. First, I love the size and weight. They are small enough for my wife to use with ease and I don't get tired lugging the around. The first day I bought them I didn't really have any work to do, but wanted to try them out so I went and repaired my moms fence that surrounds her backyard. Only about .6 acres, but it was a good opportunity to try out the tools. The impact driver handled 50-60 3" screws through hard woods with ease. The battery didn't seem to lose any power and I was pleasantly surprised with the torque. For anyone looking for a nice drill and impact driver for around the house type work, look no further. These two are awesome. Another plus, the batteries charge in 50 minutes.

Makita continues to hold true to their name and word. These tools pack an amazing punch for being compacts. This is a must have for any homeowner, hobbyist or tradesmen who doesn't need a full-size all the time. This set in my opinion is an awesome compliment to its bigger brother the LXT's which I had already purchased a set of a couple years ago.I didn't own any 10.8 or 12v Lithium Makita tools yet so I opted to go for a package. However, now that I have the charger which does 10.8 and 12v alongside my LXT charger which covers all the larger batteries I am set to buy any bare tools I might need in the future. Thankfully Makita is pretty good about sticking to their battery design for many years.Point is, Makita is #1 in my book and this set you will not be unhappy with. If you are in the market for either a compact driver or impact I recommend this set for the cost vs. performance. Also the LCT309w package I believe is the same set but a little stronger impact than driver like this 314 package, the driver has higher RPM's than the driver in the LCT309w package.

I was initially very pleased with this Made in China Makita set although it is definitely not the quality of the older "blue" line. The bearings went out in the drill after 20 months. This was used occasionally for light drilling and driving since I use my larger "pro" Makita drills for the heavy work. I own several Makita electric and battery powered tools, a few for over 25 years, and they are all still going strong except for batteries wearing out. This is the first to fail and it appears to have failed due to to inferior materials and/or workmanship. Spend the extra money and get the better blue one if you want the "lifetime" tool investment Makita used to be known for.
