5Just what I needed
By hockeynut
My old Craftsman table saw does not do cross cuts or miter cuts very well, so I was looking for a miter saw to fill the gap. I am a casual DIYer, have a very small home workshop, and don't have room for a huge 12" compound sliding miter saw, but I wanted to be able to cut up to at least 10" boards. This saw will do 2x12, just under 12" wide. I have a half dozen or so cordless tools from Bosch that I have been very happy with, so when I saw this I jumped on it. There is also a corded version, but the portability and ease of use of my cordless tools convinced me to go for this one. It does everything I need. Like my 6 1/2" cordless circular saw, it is very quiet and compact, the blade only spins at 2200 rpm, but like the circular saw, it cuts beautifully and easily through plywood and 2x. Rather than bolt it to my workbench, I cut a 14" by 17" piece of 3/4" plywood, drilled holes for bolts so that they could be recessed on the bottom of the wood. That will become the base for the saw. Then I can just set it on a workbench or table and clamp it down at the front edge. It comes with all you need, two batteries and charger, extension bars, and a vertical clamp to hold the work. I didn't need to make any adjustments, just unpacked it, charged the batteries and started cutting. If you already have other Makita 18v LXT tools and thus a charger and batteries, get the tool only version and save a lot of money.

5Best trim saw on the market
By C. Conner
The Makita Cordless Miter saw is the nicest trim saw I have ever owned. Now my heavy 12" sliding DeWalt sets in the garage because the Makita handles all of my Miter saw needs. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a really nice light weight trim saw.

5Initial Review after receiving the saw!
By Satch
First of all I am a retired Home Builder & Union Carpenter doing small jobs on the side to supplement my pension. My Hitachi 8" dual bevel sliding compound saw was stolen about 8 yrs ago & I replaced it with a Milwaukee 12" dual bevel sliding compound saw. Fantastic saw & in my opinion one of the best in it's class, but way to big to lug around. I needed another smaller saw similar to my Hitachi for trim work so that I didn't have to haul around the "big boy". I did my homework & read all the reviews on all the saws available & chose to spend the extra bucks for a real good one. It was delivered fast as it was ordered on Saturday afternoon & delivered on Monday at 5:22PM. You just can't beat that. Upon opening the package I was highly disappointed that it was a "Dual Slider" & not "Dual Bevel" as was my other saws. Checked the item description & don't know how this got by me. Luckily with my experience I can make the adjustments to a single beveled saw so I am not going to give the saw a lower rating because of my reading mistake. Hint to Amazon & Makita corporation the name of this saw should be Makita 18v 7-1/2" Single Bevel Sliding Compound Saw. List the fact that it has dual slides in the description please! To Makita corporation mount the motor on top & you will have enough room to make it a dual bevel! The motor would not hit the fence or the table if you did a little redesigning!Although disappointed in the single bevel aspect, it looks to be otherwise perfect in every other area. They even took care of the flaw of their larger electric models. The fence closest to the saw blade comes to a point on the electric models which tapers down to very thin aluminum material which in time becomes bent or broken from binding a cut or two. Cutting very short pieces of material could cause a bind as both sides of the fence are no longer true at that point. Somebody could lose a finger because of this. Makita reinforced this area on this small saw so that these points are a lot stronger. This was the reason that I chose the Milwaukee 12" dual bevel sliding compound saw over all of the leading models on the market. A big high 5 from me to Makita for the design of this fence system. Now if they just would beef up their bigger electric versions. If you decide on a different model be sure to check the fence closest to the blade on both sides & make sure it is beefy stock or reinforced as a bend in either will cause the blade to bind on short cuts in short stock. One other design flaw is the table extensions will not slide into the table for storage, they will have to be removed after each time I put them on. I am sure they could come up with a telescopic system so that they could stay mounted on the saw.Tomorrow this little jewel starts work with me & I am sure like all Makita products that I am going to be very satisfied as it came right out of the box set up true with no adjustments needed. By the way, it is the blade that makes smooth cuts not the saw!I am giving this saw the highest rating so far, it's not the saws fault that I can't read! Happy Cutting!I have now used the saw for 2 small jobs. The first one was installing composite handrail & spindles on a deck. It did a great job, smooth & accurate cuts. 2 days later I had to install 4" rock hard poplar base trim that was 1" thick in a sun-room. The straight cuts were a breeze. Cutting the bevel to cope the corners was a big draw down on the saw. I went nice & slow & let the blade do the work. It was the ticket as it saved me from loading up the big boy. I wouldn't want to do a hole house with it, but cutting slow & letting the blade tell me how fast to make the cut was the trick. I couldn't be happier as I doubt if I will ever have to cut 1" thick poplar base trim ever again. By the way, my Bostich 7.2v gas finish nailer didn't even strain driving every single nail home. No countersink was needed. Boy have times changed, I had to get a cord out for my Makita jig saw to cope with & that was it. Next will be a Makita 18v jig saw to go with this saw & the cords can stay in the truck! I couldn't be happier & I hope you never have to cut 1" poplar base as well. That was some rock hard trim.
