Product Description

CRL Cerium Oxide is a high grade optical polishing compound used to lessen and polish scratches from mirror bevels, table top edges, glass in vehicles or structures. CRL Cerium Oxide is mixed with water to form a paste or slurry. This compound has excellent suspension qualities and will not harden. Contains no zinc oxide, and meets most local disposal ordinances. This Cerium Oxide Compound can be used with a hand pad for light surface cleanup, powered hand devices for scratch and surface repair, mechanized scrubbers in mirror silvering lines, or as the final polishing step in multi-stage edging and bevelling equipment.

5Worked to remove water spots and scratches from glass.
By CStradling24
After mixing this with water I used it on a 7" random orbital polisher with a sheeps wool pad to remove water spots from my 2008 Escalade's windows and windshield. Before I bought this I was using Bar Keepers Friend, which would remove most of the water spots but a few tough ones on the windshield and sunroom stayed. I read to try 0000 steel wool with the BKF on the hard water spots. This worked but left a lot of very small scratches that when hit with lit left swirls and light rings around the source. After using this the fine scratches were gone. A few deep scratches from rocks etc still remained but the damage I caused with the steel wool was removed. It took about 5 hours from start to finish to do the driver, passenger, and windshield. Each window took about three separate times. And it makes a mess flinging the milky like mixture everywhere which I washed off the paint after each try.Like I said it worked, but was a major pain in the butt.

3Auto glass polishing - not so easy or effective
By Steve Oh
Several years ago, I purchased a used SUV which had rear window damage in an area which was slightly scratched by the rear wiper blade cycling back and forth, perhaps for months, on a dirty window. The scratches and loss of gloss was very slight and could not be detected by feel, so I thought that the cerium oxide compound might work better than the "medium grade" auto body polishing compound which did not work.I purchased a 2" dia wool polishing pad for use in my 3/8 electric drill, took some cerium powder, and mixed it into a slurry consistency, marked the window's damaged area with masking tape, and started polishing the damaged area. After more than an hour of repeatedly going over and over the area, there was only very slight improvement. I conclude that it may take at least 2 more hours of polishing to completely remove the damage.I am also not sure if the electric drill/2" dia wool pad method is adequate. A faster polishing speed would probably work faster. Also, the surface of the glass must be sprayed with water during the process to keep heat from building up. This causes the ceruim oxide to become "watered down" and also results in cerium compound "spray" flying off the spinning polishing pad. The spray gets on everything, causing extra cleanup time on surrounding surfaces, bumper, window frame, wiper blade arm, tail lights, etc. Next time I will mask off the entire rear end of the SUV.My feeling is that it may be cheaper, certainly faster, to just replace the window with new glass, which is $250, not including labor to disassemble the rear hatch and power window mechanism. But I am now committed somewhat since I have spent almost $50 buying powder and polishing pads, not including my "free" labor. This is not a fast process to polish out even minor window damage. However, it is an excellent cleaning compound for glass surfaces and easily removed hard water stains and spots from my glass shower enclosure and door.

4Worked very well - exactly as expected
By Mark R. Kluth
This product helped me clean years of hard water stains off the outside of a window I can't replace. The only thing I would suggest is to get a few extra glass scrubber pads if you have a big job so you don't run out.
