Rockwell 12V Drill/Driver set

I bought the Rockwel 12V Drill/Driver set from Amazon for $145. I replaced an old 18V drill, because I got tired of paying $70 for new batteries about once a year. The Rockwell comes with a lifetime free replacement on the batteries. I called the company to find out what you have to do to get replacement batteries and was told you have to mail them your old batteries and pay shipping for the new batteries. They said shipping and handling would be $6.71 to Arizona. The customer service center is located in North Carolina.So far I love these new tools. They are not as bulky as an 18V drill and are a lot lighter. They fit in the hand comfortably. The 12V lithium batteries fully charge in 30 minutes. They both have lights that come on when you pull the trigger. The driver is an impact with a quick release bit holder and the drill has an adjustable clutch.After three weeks of occasional use without charging they still have plenty of power. I screwed two 3 1/2" #9 screws (the largest I had on hand) through two 2×4's with no problem with both the driver and the drill.The drill only has a 3/8" chuck, so twist bits larger than 3/8" have to have a stepped down shank.

Nice Drill Set for the Weekend Handyman

I saw these originally at one of those big box home centers. I liked their heft, feel and operation. However, what really sold me was the lifetime battery program. I can't tell you how many times I would attempt to use my old cordless drill only to find it "dead". Additionally, since it was a NiCd battery it usually meant a long charge time or worse yet, no charge at all. These batteries charge quickly and retain their charge longer since they are Li batteries. I hope that I never need to replace the batteries. Sort of the same wish I had for my snow-thrower. The first order arrived damaged as the trigger on the drill was broken in transit. The box they arrived in was perfect, but I believe the battery charger which was loose in the package, hit and crushed the trigger. Amazon replaced the whole set in one day and emailed me a pre-paid return shipping label. That's great customer service!

Great Product!

Rockwell RK1001K2 12-Volt LithiumTech 2-Tool Combo KitExcellent tools. I would definitely buy this product again. Selling point for me was the "Batteries for Life" promo - will have to wait & see how that works out when / if I finally need it.Absolutely love these tools - battery life is great & charge time is short. Impact gun has plenty of power. Only thing I see so far that I would improve would be to add a clip on the sides of the tools to be able to easily hang them from my pocket or belt when I can't easily lay them down (The comparable Porter Cable tools have such a clip).

A decent drill for quick things around the house

Does the job for small jobs. I wouldn't recommend it for raising a barn but for putting up some shelves or some simple repairs this has served me quite well. Comes with a stud finder...cool. The bag is handy.

Lasted about 2 years.

My wife bought this drill locally when we got a new house 2 years ago, so it saw a lot of use initially when I had to install all of our blinds/curtains and other misc things to hang around the house. It was sufficient for all of that. It was lacking in power for some jobs like when I had to drill through our metal sink with a 1" hole bit to install a switch for a garbage disposal. For that it was barely powerful enough to get through the metal without stopping the motor, so I had to use light pressure and let it eat through the metal slowly to get through it. Same thing when I had to drill a 1" hole through the back of a desk, it bogged down on the thick/hard wood a lot.So I'm not sure I would recommend this for anything except for normal drywall drilling and screwing things in/out of walls. The battery completely died and won't hold a charge at all anymore after 2 years either. So I upgraded to B&D's newer 20v Li-ion drill (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NNF0YU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) since I already had some of their other 20v tools and their battery packs are interchangeable. I just now ordered it, so I can't comment for a comparison yet. You're definitely getting what you pay for here though.Oh, and the stud finder is absolutely useless. I can put it against pretty much anything and it says there's a stud there. I recommend getting a mechanical/magnetic one instead.

Great for Home Projects

This is a work horse. Small but effective. I use it for all little projects around the inside and outside of my house. The stud finder and carrying case keep it all together. Handy and practical.

Simplicity

I've been using this for a few months now doing trim work on a small modular cabin. It doesn't get much easier than this. The compressor is virtually maintenance free and the only adjustments necessary are the regulator pressure on the compressor and the nail depth on the gun, both of which are no-brainers.I had never used a pneumatic nailer before but I was up and running in about 10 minutes. That included reading the manual. I ran a few nails into a couple pieces of scrap to check/adjust nail depth and went to work.When not in use, the hose can be wound up and placed in the included tool bag with the gun and put away neatly.The one thing to be aware of is that the compressor motor is loud. Some might consider that a con but it doesn't matter to me.

Great combo

I bought this combo because of the compressor it came with. I previously owned a compressor like this that was stolen, so when I saw this combo it was a no brainer to purchase it. I owned the stolen compressor for 5 years and it never failed to accomplish the task I put it thru, framing nailer, air wrenches and inflator . Never a problem with it

Finish Nailer combo kit

Bought this product for some remodelling jobs and it has worked great right out of the box. Setup was easy and the ergonomic design is well done, with good balance for the tool and the compressor handle. Have driven over 1000 nails so far without a misfire or jam. Love it!

Great deal - one problem though

Took a chance on a reconditioned item and the finish nailer I received with this set never worked at all from day one.I called Bostitch and they sent me to a local repair shop. The guy could tell it was brand new so he had no issues fixing it for me for free. 3 weeks later I have my reconditioned reconditioned Finish nailer and all is well. Tank is light and portable with soft feet o as not to mar the flooring. The hose is the lightweight plastic one, but that is fine for my trim work around the house. I would recommend Bostitch again.

LOOKED NEW!

This is a great unit. It arrived it what seemed to be new condition. I used it the very next day and cedar lined a closet using the Brad Nailer. Other than one Jam, it worked flawlessly. I believe the only reason that it jammed was that I forgot to oil it before using it. This will be used many times!!!

Outstanding combo

Ergonomic. Powerfull. 3 amp/hour batteries. Good warranty. I considered milwaukee, and makita before settling on this drill driver. I would buy this again and pick up 2 more for my family. The futuristic look is not my favorite but you get past it quick. Oh yeah, the driver is unbelievably handy. I was considering picking up one of the new micro-drivers to use on small projects but this driver is small enough to fit about anywhere, is light, and powerfull. I have used the driver twice as much as the drill so far. I just keep finding uses for it. The drill is well ballanced with a metal jacobs keyless chuck. About the only nock on these is the light built into the belt clip. Kinda gimicky but can help if you are in the dark. Would have been better to go conventional like the makita IMO. The bag is good as bags go but why not a real case? It can't add much cost if any and is a superior way to store powertools. I don't notice too much noise on the charger fan like others noted but to each his or her own. I would say that the makita drill felt a little bit better in my hand and has a better light. The driver feels the same in my hand as the makita, but the hitachi is rated for more torque. I just get the feeling that the hitachi is built a bit more robust than the makita. The warranty is three versus five favoring the hitachi. Oh yeah, price. This is a no-brainer if you get it anywhere near my price, US $200 shipped. WOW. I still think somebody made a mistake. About the milwaukee, it felt a bit cheap to me. Their new m18 series is rated for about 80 inch pounds more torque but it feels dinky in my hand. These batteries hold a long charge and I have used them extensively in cold weather (10-20 degree F) and have been impressed.

Amazingly wonderful tools!!

This set of two drills is an amazing set of drills. If you are looking for the best performing drills for just about any application, you have just found them. On a scale of 1 to 5, they deserve a 6! I have become a fan of these Hitachi drills ever since I was introduced to one of them a few months back. They can handle a lot of abuse and they just keep on working. Be prepared to have all your co-workers coming by to try and borrow them quite consistantly. I was one of them until I got my own. Now I'm the one lending them. Buy these and you will not regret it! Be prepared to fall in love.If you are planning on buying this set, you should seriously consider spending about $70 more and buying them separately. Why? Well in the set you only get 2 batteries and 1 charger. If you buy them separately, you end up with 4 batteries and 2 chargers! It took a couple of days for us to realize our beloved drill was not coming back.I had already realized that at one point I was going to end up getting one of these for myself, so I had already done my research. I had decided that when the time would come I was going to get the WH18DL Impact Wrench which is the New 18V version of this wonderful little work horse. I had already started to like this set of two drills, which include the DV18DL Hammer DrillHitachi DV18DL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Cordless Hammer Drill and also the Hitachi WH18DL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver.Well, the time came when we realized our baby was gone and whoever took it was not planning to bring it back. Could we blame that person? Thief!I looked online and found the best price (by about $30) at another online store. However, their shipping charges came out to about $120, and they did not specify how long it would take for my order to be processed. I figured it could take a week before my order even ships out. I did not have 7, 10 or more days to wait for my tools to arrive.Well I ordered it from Amazon. I paid $30 more for the drill set, but I saved about $70 dollars on shipping charges. Even better, I received them the following day at the worksite! The other online store was charging about $120 for UPS Ground. Amazon charged me about $50 for Overnight delivery. Not bad at all!The drills have been used quite consistently. If I'm not using them, usually somebody else is. I should start renting them out to my co-workers.The drills are loved by everyone who uses them. Everyone tells me how impressed they are! And of course, they all say they are going to go out and get one of their own. Get your own and stop bugging me! I am telling you, be prepared to have everybody coming around all the time trying to borrow them!! They are a thing of beauty.

Great combo

I have read some negative reviews on other sites that were less than "good" in regards to this combo. Most of those were from guys who claimed to be finish carpenters or contract professionals. The average home handy man may consider these types more valid personnel to review tools. But I asked myself, what sort of professionals put their livelihoods in the hands of anything less than the best tools? It's like anything. If you want professional grade you buy professional grade.It's like a guy I know who races Mountain bikes professionally. He can justify spending top dollar on his rig. And he should if he wants to compete. But giving a negative review to a bike that is a great rig for the weekend trail warrior is both invalid and unfair if it's not meeting his expectations during a big race. Same principle.So now, the Porter Cable Combo. I bought it mostly for the saw. I already had a Makita cordless drill which is still second to none after decades of work. But for the price, I figured I would get this because it had an extra battery and an extra drill is never a bad thing. I used the saw cutting 2x4 for framing out a basement. I also used it on ply-wood up to one inch thick. I found it to be surprisingly powerful. It made clean and accurate cuts and the battery life was never an issue. I made hundreds of cuts over two days and only charged the battery over night between those two days.I used the drill as well to see how it performed. It was fine. I had no chuck issues like the previous poster. No wobble at all. I use screws instead of framing nails and this one drove them almost as cleanly and about 80 percent as easily as my much higher priced Makita. No pilot holes either. Same thing. Battery life didn't seem an issue.I figure as a home owner, who does not do professional work, this combo is a great set for the average handy man who does weekend home remodeling or what not.If you are a contractor, then perhaps giving negative reviews to something like this is more of an issue of you not doing your due diligence prior to investing in the RIGHT tools, the back bone of your trade.

Great Drill and Saw kit.

I've been a Porter Cable fan for many years. I'm not a professional in construction but some of my friends are. I however have domne a lot of work around my house and Porter Cable has been my weapon of choice across the board for durability and safety. I've built a deck out back that is huge and even added an extension onto my home that is 12' X 36' being used for a closed in roofed porch. Porter Cable tools did it all with the help of my wife and myself.That being said, There were some recent projects I needed to do of a minor nature like install the braces for the new 46" Plasma TV to the wall. I discovered that the batteries for my Porter Cable Drill would not hold a charge. Well, I had the thing for many years and it lasted longer than average. It paid for itself. The batteries are no longer made. Time to get a new drill.[...]I put both the drill and the saw through the paces cuz I had some more projects I had put on the side for awhile. Guys like to play with new toys like this. Gotta say this. The batteries totally REFUSE to wear down after what I put both tools through! Both the drill and the saw out performed what I expected for tools twice the price! I sawed and drilled everything from pressed board to Pressure Treated 2X4's. Both the drill and saw powered up just as if they were plugged into an outlet. There was no loss of power or torque after around four hours of steady use. Due to the projects that I had put on hold, I needed more than the 18 tooth blade that came with the saw and bought a 24 tooth, 40 tooth and 90 tooth blades. I highly recommend doing that. I also highly recommend buying this combo kit. It's awesome.

Great Deal with a few Trade-Offs

I used this kit this weekend to build some large planter boxes for my girlfriend's roof top garden, and it met all my realistic expectations and I think for the price it is an extremely good deal. However, you do get what you pay for and this kit has some unfortunate trade-offs for the low price. These tools are basically pared down versions of other bare PC tools (the drill has a plastic chuck vs the all metal of the regular PC drill, and the saw has lost its laser sight from the regular saw). So for the low cost of the combo you are also loosing some features, but to me that was a trade off i could live with.It's also important to note that these aren't contractor grade tools. But for the DIY homeowner or weekend warrior like me they seem to fulfill their need admirably.

Totally by this with the 2 pack XRP batteries

I got this April 7,2011 and have use these pretty hard for the past month. One thing about this product is the reciprocating saw, it uses the low capacity batteriesfast. I recommend buying the XRP batteries along with the set for the reciprocating saw. THIS WAY YOU SAVE MONEY, heres how: I have wanted some Dewalt cordlesstools for the last few months for all the hard work here. I know Milwaukee and Makita are higher quality but also higher priced. I'm 13 (using my moms account) and get average $100 a week fromfrom most of the odd jobs here in Dillingham, AK about 350 miles southwest of Anchorage the largest city in Alaska. Since need to save money I searched and searched andsearched for most of the pretty good quality cordless drills and reciprocating saws. I looked at the XRP drill and recip' saw kit at Northern tool and it was $369.99 then I saw thesame kit on Amazon for a lower price, (I don't know how the owner of Amazon is a billion air when he can lower the price on billions of products AND even give FREE shipping to Alaska my dad sayshe get a few cents per item but I don't know?) Then under Similar products I saw this Dewalt combo kit. Then I didn't know what XRP batteries were until I saw another review under this productthat said it would be a grand deal if it had XRP batteries. So that convinced me to see what they were. I asked my dad but he didn't know what they were but told me to go search for them.I found the description on Northern tool which is to the bottom. Since then XRP drill and saw kit was $369.99 I saw that you could get this kit which was $200 at that time and a XRP batteries 2pack,which was on sale for $86 (and now is currently $95), and get four batteries and the drill and saw for $286 THAT WAY I SAVED ABOUT $100 AND GOT FOUR BATTERIES FOR THE PRICE OF ABOUT TWO.This way the two low capacity batteries went two the drill, and the two high capacity batteries went to the saw! I also bought this because I love power tools and I'm a Dewalt fan.I HOPE YOU SAVE MONEY AND READ THIS REVIEW! FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT XRP BATTERIES ARE THEY ARE EXTENDED RUNTIME HIGH CAPACITY BATTERIES. The paragraphs are messed up cause I'm still taking typing classes.

Great price on a quality NEW kit

I received the DC759CA kit today and it was as I expected, not a refurb, but new, in original unopened packaging. It comes with a plastic hard case with lots of extra storage room for bits, blades, etc. It did not come with a bag, as the description says. I'd sooner have the box anyways. It's a DeWalt, so you know the quality is there, and Max Tool delivered as expected and for less than anywhere else.

I just wanted to report that like someone else here, although the description says it comes with a contractor's bag (and not a case), mine came with the black plastic case that is pictured in Amazon's photos.
